Andersen Winches are a big name in the boating business. Designed and manufactured in Denmark, Andersen Winches have earnt a reputation for building first class, high quality winches.

The stainless steel winches are known for being durable and reliable, and with their smooth, Power Rib drum they provide excellent holding whilst remaining kind to your ropes.

If you’re already reaping the benefits of an Andersen Winch, over its lifespan you might find it necessary to order spare parts, purchase a conversion kit (to transform your winch from manual to electric), download a product manual or obtain a service kit (recommended at least once every two years).

In order to do any of these things, you first need to make sure you have one vital piece of information: the Product Identification Code.

The Product Identification Code depicts three crucial pieces of information about your winch: the production year, the month in which it was produced and the version number. It is written in the following format: YY-MM-VER (Production Year – Month – Version).

For example, if your Andersen Winch had a Product Identification Code of 1408V32F, this would illustrate that the winch was produced in 2014, in August and that the version number of the winch is V3.2F.

But how do you find the Product Identification Code on an Andersen Winch?

The code is stamped onto the base of every Andersen winch and it is possible to locate it by following these simple steps:

1. Remove the screws from the self-tailing arm, and remove the arm.

2. Remove the polished stainless steel winch drum.

3. The Product Identification Code will be visible on the base, stamped clearly on the top surface of the deck flange, between 2 mounting bolt holes.

This video from Ronstan also details how to find the Product Identification Code:

If you cannot immediately spot your code in this location – and if your Andersen Winch is very old – then it is possible it is stamped on the bottom side of the deck flange.

If you are in search of a service kit, conversion kit, spare part or manual, do not even pick up the phone without first obtaining the Product Identification Code: we will not be able to help you without it!
