BY ANDY RICE, INTERVIEWING BJARNE LORENZEN
One of the great spectacles of the recent Volvo Ocean Race was seeing the VO65s charging along with a trio of headsails flying in neat formation in front of the mainsail. In the fourth blog post of this series, Bjarne Lorenzen of sailmaker Doyle O’leu describes the growing appeal of the staysail in both the racing and cruising scenes.
This year is upffront.com’s 5th anniversary, and to celebrate we are pleased to announced the launch of an all-new website platform, which we have been working on for the last 6 months. This site and the underlying technology is a major transition/transformation and so we felt it was an appropriate moment to re-introduce ourselves and explain what we are trying to achieve.
Tuff Luff’s twin-grooved headfoil allows for easy and fast headsail changes. It is a must-have system for any club or competitive race boat. Tuff Luff is owned by Schaefer Marine Inc. who has been in marine hardware design since 1966.

It’s been a busy week at METS, the biggest, and undoubtedly best trade marine show in the world. Our mission here has been to catch up with our existing manufacturers and suppliers and find their interesting developments and to connect with new manufacturers so we can bring more cool products to Upffront customers.

This blog gives you the key rig and sail dimensions plus the formulas you need to calculate your sail areas.
