Deck hardware has come full circle. Now, designers favour simple designs that make use of high-performance materials over complex concepts. We spoke to Nicolas Goldenberg of Morfrac Systems, the mind behind the disruptive morfblock, about the evolution of deck hardware and his predictions for the future.
In recent years, 3D printing has revolutionised manufacturing processes. Expiring patents have caused 3D printing costs to plunge and quality to soar, granting opportunities for small-scale manufacturers to experiment – and excel – with 3D printing.
We spoke to Nicolas Goldenberg, founder of Morfrac Systems, to discuss how 3D printing has contributed to the success of their iconic product, the morfblock.

Morf Block – the brainchild of Morfrac Systems – is constantly evolving. Once a DIY block, where the user was free to use the lash thimble of their choice, Morf Block is now available ready-to-run, optimised for either high performance or high load.
In conversation with Nicolas Goldenberg, the founder of Morfrac Systems, this blog post reflects on the evolution of the block over time and considers the future of the product.

In light of the newly updated Ino-Rope product range, we ask you to cast your mind back to 2013: French duo – experienced offshore Mini Transat 650 sailor Thibault Reinhart and professional rigger Julien Barnet – burst onto the sailing scene, attempting to upturn the sailing industry with a range of high tech, soft loop blocks.
Morf Block emerged as an original idea.
Founded and forged by G Yacht Design, the concept materialised as a DIY block. The kit - comprised of the block cheeks, plain bearing and Dyneema® attachment - allowed purchasers to build their own blocks, using the lash thimble of their preference. Appealing to riggers, amongst others, the kit was sold in a number of sizes, with each size suitable for several brands of lash thimble. However, now, things have evolved.
